Brief description of fishery:
A mature gravel pit of approx. 3.5 acres. Primarily a specimen fish water for carp, tench and pike. Owing to the size of fish in this lake fish care and safety is paramount at all times.
Small Sheepwalk was restocked in 2016 with approx. 150 small carp of the Dinton strain as well as 200 small tench. Added to that there were between 30-50 original fish that have been in the lake since the 80’s. The small carp have thrived in their new environment, and some are already over 20lbs. The small tench however seem to have disappeared but we live in hope some have survived.
February 2020 saw the club stock 4-600 small roach into the lake. So, we probably have somewhere in the region of 200 carp, which range in size from low doubles to low thirties. Little Sheepwalk contains very large tench including a 12lber caught last spring.
There are reports of pike to mid 20’s but we have yet to see photos.
The small lake also has a sturgeon which has obviously been illegally stocked but we are in the process of trying to remove this. The small lake has also produced very big eels to over 5lb.
Length of stay on Little Sheepwalk
The rules state that if you arrive between Sunday and Wednesday you may stay for a maximum of 72 hours. However, it has become the practice that at times of high demand and in the interests of fairness, the fishery manager may decide to limit the length of stay to 48 hours. This is the position at the moment, as notices on site say.
