River Kennet between Newbury and Thatcham, Berkshire

Venue description: Approximately a mile of double bank fishing together with a mile and a quarter of single bank fishing. With its many bends it is nearly always possible to find a sheltered swim no matter how bad the weather.

Parking: There are three riverside car parks serving the venue two of which are behind locked gates.

Species: Barbel, chub, roach, dace, perch, pike, gudgeon, trout, grayling together with the odd bream and carp.

Additional facilities: Members may apply for a trout fishing permit for a very reasonable charge: This covers the cost of an annual restocking of brown trout.

Closed season: The National closed season, 15th March to 15th June applies to this venue.

Comment: The Society’s premier river fishery with barbel to fifteen pounds, chub to seven pounds and pike to over twenty pounds as well as plentiful dace, some very good perch, roach, trout, and grayling.

Night fishing is permitted.
